We have stayed in a couple. One had so many bugs that came out when you turned out the lights, I slept in the car because it was too late to get another hotel. It was awful!!!!

Ive stayed in lots of hotels but not 1 of them was a dirty as the one you got. Where are you from? Sorry to hear about your crappy experience but I like staying in hotel rooms. [krizz420]
I am from Ohio. [Thoroughrob]
Yes, Once I found it very disgusting in hot weather and there they did not have AC [kutchi]
Thank God I've never stayed in a disgusting hotel room yet. So far all the hotels I've stayed in here in the Philippines were well-maintained and in order. [genchamp]
That is really good to know. [Thoroughrob]
Oh yeah, and I am waiting for the moment too, where we go into a hotel or motel room, smell something nasty and find a corpse under the mattress! [mbs730]
Yahh life these days does make ya wonder once in awhile.. [flowerchilde]
only once or twic e I am very picky about hotels though I wont stay if they look run down at all. [honeybfly83]
OMG, they should have paid for your hospital bill and refunded your money. That is awful!!! [Thoroughrob]
I remember as a child (oh no I am getting all old on myself) going on holiday to the coast where my grandparents owned this flat. It was never in use so my grandparents always offered to let anyone in the family who wanted stay there. So we went and it was so old all the sheets where at least 5 years old and because of the topography it was humid and therefore hot and sticky. The stove was dis-crusting and when I went to bed I remember seeing a number of roaches emerge from the wood work of the mattress base and run up the ceiling. I remember closing my eyes and wishing for the fastest holiday of my life! [matt2hollick]
Don't sound like it was very inviting. It is an awful feeling. [Thoroughrob]
well usually the ones ive been at were pretty decent.. but there was this one down in daytona or jupiter (florida) that was sooooo gross.. i called my EX and his current(we of course had remained friends~! lol) and asked them if i could stay with them the night! HAHH! i was real bad,, so much that staying with them was better! [kittykatzz]
Wow, lucky you were still friends with them!!! [Thoroughrob]
Ugh! I can't say the same thank god. I hope they gave you a full refund! [emisle]
That is the worst thing. They give you coupons for free nights.... Like after your horrible experience you really intend on using their rooms again. Riggghhhhtt. They should give out a free meal coupon to a nice restaurant or something. That says sorry better to me than a free night in a crap shack. [sirensanssmile]
Oh man! What a nightmare! I've stayed in some motels that wern't all that great. But not that bad. Not yet anyway! Stayed in an apartment with some friends many, many years ago, that wasn't too kool.. [it was better than the street tho!] [flowerchilde]
Wow... May i know where was it ... until now the hotels i go is still acceptable man .... that is very terrible [Sir_bobby88]
It was in Lexington KY. I can't remember the name, but I remember how we got there and could find it again but I have no desire to go close to there again. [Thoroughrob]
Yes, we stayed in one that sounds a lot like yours. It was on a beach in New Hampshire. We hadn't seen another place to stop in miles, and we were all tired. The room cost more than anywhere else we had stayed, but we paid it. Our first clue that the room wasn't going to be very nice was when we could hardly get in the door because one of the beds was sitting too close -- out of necessity because there wasn't room for both of them. The sink was full of dead bugs, and the mirror was crusted. The bathroom was clean but old and deteriorated. My son's girlfriend was with us, and she started having a pouty fit about staying in such a place. However, there was a good restaurant next door, and the ocean was gorgeous and very near, plus the sheets looked clean, so we stayed. We threw the bedspreads and blankets on the floor and made due with the sheets. In the morning I always wake up earlier than anyone else and sit in the bathroom and read. There, however, I went out to the van to read. Everyone was up early because we couldn't wait to get away from that place. Isn't there supposed to be an agency who checks up on these places? If not, there should be. [sbeauty]
You would think that the health department would check up on them. They do stores and restaurants. [Thoroughrob]
Yes and they changed our room and it was a lot cleaner. Don't you just hate those bugs [Justme2007]
ICK YES!!! We take trips to Orlando often and sometimes I have been left to pick the hotel room for 7 to 8 people. We usually try to get a suite or something with 2 rooms to stay in so we can all be in the same 'room'. I found this one effeciency room that looked great on Hotels.com - was even rated 4 stars. The pictures looked good, there was a kitchen, livingroom and 2 rooms. Was big enough for the whole family. When we got to the room it STUNK of mildew, the walls were horrible, the kitchen was nasty and the rooms were discusting! We left, turned in our key didn't even bother asking for a refund just found another nicer hotel to stay in for the weekend. [LittleStars]
Don't it just make you mad? I would have asked for a refund or called the place and complained big time. It is awful they are not monitored more closely. [Thoroughrob]
I have never stayed in one that bad. The worst one I have stayed in was clean, but lacking an alarm clock and some other basic items. Maybe I'm just spoiled. That is awful about the bugs. Isn't that a health violation? [wahmoftwo]
I stayed at a motel a couple of years ago that was like that. My younger daughter and I traveled to visit my older daughter and for some reason all of the motels were full, so we had no choice (and my daughter had no room in her tiny apartment.) We laugh about it and call it 'motel h-e-double-L', lol. When we went in, it looked like something from a horror movie! The shower was unusable because of the black mold in it, and the floors looked like they hadn't seen a vaccuum in years. Only a couple of the electric outlets worked, the rest were hanging there part of the way out of the wall. There were bugs that only came out when the lights were out, so we slept with them on! My daughter fell asleep first, we decided to sleep in our clothes, on top of the bed because the blankets looked cleaner than the sheets. After she fell asleep, I went into the bathroom and there was no curtains on the windows, and no lock on the bathroom window (which overlooked a big empty field.) When I tried to figure out where the draft was coming from, I looked at the window and it was permanently open for about 2" and could not be shut at all. Every unit had a screen door, but all of them were unlatched and slammed open and shut all night long, they squeaked like they needed some serious oiling too! I stayed up most of the night because we were so spooked out. In the morning, I had a little talk with the health dept about sanitation in motels. There was so many violations I couldn't believe it...not even the fire alarm had batteries in it. The funny thing is, is that from the outside it looked to be a tip-top motel! You couldn't pay me enough to ever stay there again!! [JoyfulOne]
The one we stayed at looked good on the outside too. They should get in big trouble over the places being like that. [Thoroughrob]
Oh, yes, twice. All I can say is I will never stay in a Super 8 again. Also, my family stayed in a terrible place in Rhode Island. It was disgusting. [carysmemories]
no i haven't and if i found one that was digusting i just go to another hotel [coco526]
We've only had one disgusting hotel experience, I was pretty shocked and grossed out by what we found! We found a used condom in the drawer beside the bed, I couldn't even believe it and I questioned what kind of bug infested bed we must have been sleeping in too lol. [Jshean20]
when we went to baguio, the hotel we stayed was smell like a hell, like some die there, i can't even stay a second on that room, so we went to other hotel. [rudz11]

It has happened to me. But I always bring blankets and sheets when i travel so I will throw it on top and live with it for the night. *I have never had bugs though, I think I would be in my car. [liperoterachel]
One hotel room stunk so bad I thought I was going to puke. Luckily there was another room available. It smelled like maybe the toliet had overflowed or something. Either that or someone with pets stayed in there. Sorry you had to sleep in the car. I personally hate staying in hotels. I have seen too many of those undercover reports. But if you want to go on vacation what choice do you have? [trouble4u2avoid]
I have had some pretty nasty experiences with hotels. I had to request the linens on the bed be changed, the bathroom be cleaned in another, personal items left behind removed, and one room they had taken cig butts and shoved them into the air vent ( I slept in the car while I was 6 months pregnant). So I feel your pain. It doesn't make any scense for things to be so nasty. But who do you blame? Managment of house keeping. And honestly once you have seen the rooms like that do you want to stay there anyway? Not me. There are hotels I will no longer go to because of issues like that. Great discussion. [tendaheart2002]
Yes once in LA I was in a hotel room and they had roaches they moved us to another room but I wanted to just go home. [Justme2007]
I have 2 bad memories from hotels/motels that were disgusting. One, we were traveling home from NC and I got a migraine and knew if I didn't pull in soon we were in trouble. We took the first hotel we saw and I pulled in, died on the bed, the kids swam and my then b/f watched them for me. Next morning we awoke, got up to get showers, etc. and the shower literally had an ant hill IN IT! I'm talking mound of sand/dirt with them living!!! And as we just threw on our clothes to get out 2 roaches walked across our headboard! Needless to say I am so glad I was so bad off and had no clue the place was that disgusting! LOL The other one we had a hockey tournament and there was blood in the tub (obviously someone hadn't cleaned it), no toilet paper, let's just say hard dried white stuff on the tv screen (use your imagination), the bed spreads were actually STIFF. We ALL (the whole team) went out, got cleaning stuff and cleaned our rooms and bought sheets and blankets because we had NO choice but to stay as the tournament had every motel within an hours drive filled! [hockeygal4ever]
I have stayed in many hotels over the years. Never have had a problem with bugs. I have had pretty good experiences staying on places around the country. [sigma77]
I can think of one time. My family and I were travelling from GA to WV. It was dark so we got a room at a hotel in Statesville, NC. When we got to the room, turned the heat on, there was an awful smell that same from the heat vent. Looked in it, someone had put like popcorn in it. Then when we got to the bathroom, there was a roach in the tub. I went back to the desk, made them give us our money back...went up the next exit and found a nice hotel room. I can't take dirty hotels. [tarsadawn]
It made me feel creepy just reading this , no Thank God I never have, I hope you reported this though. one of the reasons I don't go on many holidays yuck !! [weemam]
i hope you got your money back.i would have slept in the car also.i use to work at hotels.i would quit the ones who didnt care if the rooms were clean or not."here is a tip for your next hotel stay.always look behind the night stand,if its dirty, than the whole rooms is dirty.you might find bugs eggs behind them.. [classy56]
Thanks, I will definitely look next time. [Thoroughrob]
We stayed one night in a hotel in Turkey that was disgusting. Everything was covered in grime and they hadn't washed the sheets, only "made the bed" (I use the term loosely). There were insects and pubic hair in the bed and we didn't even want to touch the walls. I got so upset because we had nowhere else to go that I cried. I got about 2 hours sleep laying my towels over the bed and sleeping on them. There were no towels in the room itself. Mr. just sat up all night. [Phaedra_Scythe]
Yes I have and being an ex Area Manager for a cleaning Company it stuck out even more to me. As you can imagine I was not impressed. I actually cleaned the Toilet and shower myself before I used them, they looked clean but they did not feel clean to me after the rest of the things that I saw in the room. [gabs8513]
