My husband wants to see what you on myLot has to say.
If you could travel to another planet but you could not return in this lifetime would you still go?
Our answer is: In a heartbeat. I love the thought of space travel and exploring the unknown. If I had have been born a couple of hundred years ago I would have been one of the first to venture out west in North America.

responses and comments:
No, I would not travel to another planet if there was no hope of ever returning to earth. Exploration is one thing, never ever being able to come home is another. The human body is also not built to survive the trip in space. When the heart pumps weightless blood the heart gets in terribly poor condition from not having to work hard. Space travel for years at a time easily might kill a human without extrordinary precautions. Nope, I would not explore space. I'm a curious person, and am interested in research, but that research has to be practical. I especially would not explore space with no hope of returning. [redyellowblackdog]
Thank you for responding. Awww! You're too scientific. We'd go with a leap of faith. That's part of the excitement of exploration, the unknown. [susaneverson]
No, I don't think I could ever do that. Never to see my friends and family again. To face whatever hardships that living on another planet might involve? Would I always have to be in a space suit? Would the atmosphere be complatible? I think when the newness wore off, it would be very lonely. The beauty of looking out and seeing what the astonauts see would be wonderful, but it would get old for me. I want the comforts of home. [charlene2350]
Thank you for responding. But to see the unknown, quite an attraction to me. We all leave our loved ones eventually, this would just be planned. Think of the great party you could plan for your farewell. The work for me would be part of the thrill. I don't know if the excitement would wear off. [susaneverson]
No, I probably would not. I like familiarity and moving to an entirely new world would be too difficult for me. It would be different if I had a family and they all moved with me along with other relatives. I wonder if we would have gotten mail from those people who did decide to leave? You're right, it is a lot like being the first pioneers. I often wonder if doing what they did was just like going to another planet. [desertdarlene]
Thank you for responding. I think doning what they did has a lot of the same aspects as going to another planet. They probably had the same unknown questions. And left thinking they could never see their families again. What faith!!! It all worked out for them. [susaneverson]
No I wouldn't go if I couldn't return to this lifetime. For the fact that I wouldn't want to miss watching my children grow up.That is too important to me.Take that factor out of it & allow me to come back to this lifetime and I'll go.:) [paradisesuns]
This is jeff responding If you could choose to take 20 people of your choice with you would you then consider going? [susaneverson]
Hi susaneverson, Im sorry but I wouldn't be among your friends joining you on that adventure! In the first place I could never leave my kids behind, just the thought of me not seeing them grow up makes me cringe. Besides the fact I wouldn't be able to leave friends and family I still wouldn't go...im a bit of chicken sh!t when it comes to exploring the unknown. LOL I like to fly...but mars is out of the question. [mom_of_2]
Thank you for responding. Wow what honesty. I would bring my kids along but they are all grown up and would have to make their own decesions. I bet there are things I'[m chicken about that you wouldn't even think twice about doing. We all have our fears. [susaneverson]
Well i'll just make sure first that i can live in another planet that im going to. LOL Then if i can live there, i'll choose to go to JUpiter, coz that planet is so pretty also in Saturn. I love looking at the planets and the universe itself. Cheers and have a nice day ahead. [vashstampede992000]
Thank you for responding. Looks like it. What fun!!! My imagination goes crazy thinking of all the posibilities that exist out there. I don't know if I'd want to stay in this galaxy, there has to be life bearing planets out there somewhere. [susaneverson]
Oh yes - I would go - especialy if my man could come with me so we could travel Space together! Life is all about adventure I think - broadening your horizons, and learning new things. It would be too much of a temptation for me to turn down! [rosie_123]
Thank you for responding. OH Rosie - I knew there was more than one reason I liked you!!!! If it was possible and affordable the temptation would be way too big for either mysele or my husband Jeff. [susaneverson]
I don't know if I want to do that or not. [aprilgrl]
Thank you for responding. Why not? Or under which conditions would you go? [susaneverson]
Where can I buy my husband a ticket? [girtsmomma]
Thank you for responding. Tee hee hee hee hee Becareful the aliens may send him back! LOL [susaneverson]
You can. I don't know if they have the NASA program in Calgary but they do in Edmonton at the Space Science Center. I want to go with you into spand and we still could take a drive together to see western North America. You'll have to drive though. [crystalball]
Thank you for responding. I'm with you! We'll see western Canada's beauty together. Then I'll go to space. lol [susaneverson]
I think i feel the exact opposite from you....I haver no interest in going anywhere but earth. lol [Nadinest]
Thank you for responding. There has to be people who would stay home. It takes all kinds and thank goodness it does. [susaneverson]
i wouldnt go. there is no planet that sustains life for humans as well as Earth. there is water and food here as well as lots of humans to have contact with. if i went off to pluto, i would get lonely and have nothing to eat. the idea of exploring space is interesting but there is nothing out there to see but rocks and stars so it would get boring quickly. also it takes a long time to travel through space even if you are going at the speed of light. [darkzzt]
Jeff responding I would go just to see if different cultures have developed, also i would be interested to find out if the mistakes that have been made here have been avoided on other worlds. [susaneverson]
I would definately go somewhere elce, ESPECIALLY if I didn't have to come back to this planet in my life time. I alaways wanted to go into space, and in fact that would be the place I'd most want to die. Space in my mind brings up thoughts of old Star Trek episodes, and though I know for a fact its nothing like that for real I can still see myself just having the greatest time thinking that it is. And when I did land on mystery planet X, why would I want to go back. There would be way too many things for me to see and do. [Lord_Xtheth]
Thank you for responding. Right on!!! That's somewhat the way I see it. Soooooo much to learn, explore and see. We would love it. Susan [susaneverson]
I would love to go to space. But if there was a slight chance I couldn't return, I'd wait till all my kids were grown up and married first. [slarkin71]
Thank you for responding. Yeah that is a defenate priority. After that I'll meet you up there. lol [susaneverson]
Yes if all considering that I could live and explore once there. I love those science programs, they let a person re-adjust your volume of mind frequencies and be carried into new concepts. I like to think one day humankind will do just that, go beyond what we know today, and really explore the cosmos. [Firewinddancer]
Thank you for responding. Yeah. It's like Lord_Xtheth says, a little like star trek did with our imaginations. Wahoo the thought is provoking. Susan [susaneverson]
No I wouldn't dare to do that in expense of my life here in earth. I know for sure that man is made for Earth and can be happy here in the very planet. All we need to survive and to enjoy living is here because we are made for this. A life in other part of universe will never be the same with in our home. [abednego7]
Thank you for responding. You are very right! And as history has shown us when people started exploring and discovering new lands there are a core of people who would not explore for the very reasons you are stating here. Susan [susaneverson]
I would jump at the chance in a heartbeat. I would love to travel into space. I am a science fiction fanatic/junkie and grew up believing we would be out there by now. It's hard to believe we still aren't. I have been avidly following he Virgin Space Program, and all the private businesses thast are puruing the goal of getting out here. It all looks very promising! [Woodpigeon]
Thank you for responding. It really does look promising. Maybe we will meet in a space program. Susan [susaneverson]
No pal I wouldn't go , all of my family would have to be with me , I would stay here , even though they all drive me mad at times , I wouldn't be happy without them , and I couldn't afford the phone bills lol xx [weemam]
we beter start saving then, can't wait lol xx [weemam]
Hi Susan: I would go to Mars and see if I could dig deep enough to find some water. A + for this one. Ivor [TheSpy]
Hi Susan: That is great. The family that goes together stays together. Ivor [TheSpy]
No I don't think I would want to. I love our home and our land. We have a small piece of heaven here. It is so peaceful and beautiful especially in the early spring. If I had been born a couple hundered years ago yes I would have been one of the first ones to say lets go out west. I love adventures but I like having my feet where I can get down and touch solid grown and breath the fresh air. Wouldn't want to have to walk around in a space suit to live. [bwrattybaby]
Thank you for responding. There has to be people who wouldn't come, after all we couldn't take the whole population with us. lol I like what you said about haveing your feet where you can get down and touch solid earth. Susan [susaneverson]
I guess it would depend on what was waiting for me on that planet.. If what was waiting there would make me happy than yes I would go. [pauloahorro]
Thank you for responding. Like the pioneers traveling out west there are no guarentees of any sort. Susan [susaneverson]
Take a chance, yes that's nice. That's what those brave explorers did when nothing much was knew about the world and the universe. Adventures are exciting but the fear of the unknown lurks inside us. For me, today I'll think twice and reconsider 3 times. It's a very difficult decision. [terry11]
I think the hardest part of the entire journey would be making the descission. once the descission was made than the work would begin and the time would pass before you knew it and you be exploring. Susan [susaneverson]
I hear ya on this one Susan. You got to try everything ones in ya lifetime, so why not throw yourself at it. If the experiences do not come to you, you got to go to the experiences, meaning seeking adventure. [kimthedane]
Thank you for responding. I like your attitude. I bet some ancestors in your line were explorers. There was a time in history when the ocean was the great unknown. I look forward to the future to see what is coming next. Susan [susaneverson]
I like how you framed the discussion, this was totally worth reading and participating in Susan. My answer: probably yes, I'm too much of an adventurer. If it was a situation where friends (from either earth or spacefarers) invited me, I'd really wanna go. The only reason I would say no is if I had too much to do on earth, or if their were enough people depending on me (immediate family, friends, maybe work...). So far, I'm young and that's not really the case, yet, hee hee. Your post also reminded me of a sci-fi concept I'm working on, its similar to your idea (kind of like a mayflower of the space age). Pretty cool stuff you posted Susan! [theprogamer]
Thank you for responding. When I was in highschool, in the 1970s, our social studies teacher posed this question to us. It was not long after the first man on the moon and was a hot topic at the time. Some of the answers that the kids gave then were absolutely hilarious and I have often wondered over the years if any of them had rethought the topic. Jeff(my husband) and I are now grandparents and would still not hessitate to go if we had the opportunity. Susan [susaneverson]
Travel to another planet when I know I won't return in my Lifetime ! Why would I want to do that unless I was bent on committing suicide ? Even If that planet has life ,I would get bored there and also develop a kind of "Earth Home Sickness" . Exploring the unknown is fine ;but not getting lost in there . This is what I think . Regards, Ptrikha1 [ptrikha1]
Thank you for responding. Bent on committing suicide? That is a very strong comment. I don't look at it in that light, I think that like the pioneers from the ice age, as they discovered Europe to the newer exploration of the west people have been interested in discovering what is around the next bend. I also think that since the ice age explorers there have been people who hold the opinion that they need to stay home and not kill themselves in whatever is around that next bend. Even the explorers will get home sick, that is natural especially in times of boredom. People are needed to stay at home and keep the home fires burning. Susan [susaneverson]
I would not go if i can not return back to earth. There is one choice. That is to go with all those who you want to be with. Our group can live in a different planet in another solar system, may be. [vijay1wdv]
Thank you for responding. That is an option for your group. I would be in the one that bruoght you there to settle it and than moved on to find more. I always wonder what is around the next corner. Susan [susaneverson]
I think I will, but I want to know is the premise that the planet Earth is not beautiful than if I went, as if Mars, I think I will go, otherwise I will certainly die of starvation. [xiuluoelly]
Thank you for responding. The premise is that we will be provided the needs to live, no need to die of starvation. The austetics of the exploration and discovery is up to your imagination. lol Susan [susaneverson]
I am a bit reluctant about the idea of not being able to return. I am anxious and willing to go for discovery purposes. I want to learn new things and discover the unknown. However, if I couldn't return to earth there might be two possibilities. I would find the other planet more exciting to live in and would not regret 100% leaving earth for the rest of my life, or, I would find the other planet is not worth to live in. I would spend my whole life crying because there is nobody to share it with me. Lol. Well... supposed that I am able to invite people to come to my new planet I would reconsider this idea. This is a golden opportunity that couldn't be wasted just like that. [ladysurvivor]
Thank you for responding. You have a valid point about the ecitement of the other planet. But since everyone who wants can bring 20 people along it would dwindle the possiblitlity of missing Earth. Susan [susaneverson]
