Whats Your Worse Experience With A Hotel

Have you ever had a horror story from spending time in a hotel? We were booked for a hockey tournament in a hotel in Ontario. This hotel was soooooo ghetto! I swear to you.. these are just SOME of the issues we dealt with as a group there: 1. One family's television had "human secretions" from obvoius excitement all over the screen! It was horrible! 2. A dead mouse floating in a toilet 3. Blood in a shower/tub 4. Rooms that smelled so horrible you could puke. 5. Uncleaned toilets 6. Rude staff that actually gave US the stuff to clean our own rooms when we complained!

Mine is minor compaired to yours. I stayed in San Franciso at a hotel by the airport. I checked in a few hours early to rest before picking up a friend at the airport. Well I was undressed and was running a bath. I flushed the toilet and it overflowed. I did not know what to do. I stepted into the tub, then back into the floor/water because I had to turn the water off to the toiled and then get dresses by walking in the water and wet carpet. I got dressed called the desk and 3 hours later I had to call them again. I then got accused of flushing something down the toilet. I just peed. They did not even clean the carpet or the floor. I made them bring in more towles because I had put all them on the floor. There was not more rooms so we got the stay in the room for 1/2 off. [teapotmommommerced]

Oh my gosh...my worst experience is no where near as horrible as yours. I am so sorry you had to deal with such please. *shivers* Our worst experience was in the Baton Rouge area (a city off of that actually, but can't remember the name). It was a Best Western, which are usually really nice, so we were shocked by how yucky this one was. Our Tv was horrible...half of the channels didn't show up and if they did it would stay steady for a second and then start moving and jittery. I found so much gross stuff on the floor, the bed gave the creeps, the only gave us one set of towels for a person and when we went down to get another set they weren't going to give us one...but they finally did. The staff was just rude and lazy. I still have nightmares from that place. [Penguinsangel]
LOL... I can tell you.. if we had the option of finding another place to stay we would have. I seriously considered staying in the car but Ontario in March is like sub zero weather quite often and this was not any different. EVERY hotel within a 2 hour drive was booked because of hockey tournaments so we had no choice and they knew it. AND when I called headquarters to complain, they blew me off. [hockeygal4ever]

As I traveled with my ex for years almost every month in a different city and different hotels I have dozens of stories but the scariest was when I was alone with my dog (at that time a dachshund) in the hotel room when my husband was at work. My dog kept staring into a corner and was barking, whining and skratching at the floor. Finally this went on for so long some of the other guests complained but I had never seen him behave like this before and he wouldn't stop. The manager came to the room with other guests following along, knocked on the door and said that it must be that my dog sensed that just a few days before a guest had committed suicide and his body was found in the exact spot that was making my dog bark...Needless to say I changed rooms in a hurry. [whiteheather39]
OMg.. freaky! I swear animals have that ability. [hockeygal4ever]

I had experienced some that you had before but the worst was when i my room was knocked in the wee hours of the morning by a raiding vice squad. Nothing happened to me though as i was 'unaccompanied' (lucky me!) but the whole operation caused so much commotion i barely had rest the day after. I swore not to sleep in 'super-budget' hotels ever again. [winjzz]
LOL... thank GOD you didn't have a "friend" you met at the bar or something with you! The sad part was, this was NOT a cheap hotel! We paid a premium price considering what it offered! [hockeygal4ever]

That is a nightmare hotel visit and I would write a letter to the company with the details that you listed here. They have broken so many health code violations that they should be fined and closed down until these things are remedied. I've actually been quite fortunate with hotel stays in Canada and the US. We had a problem with a hotel in Mexico once with cockroaches in the room. They were apologetic and refunded us our money and we moved to another hotel. [gardengalz]

That is pretty horrible! I think the worst that we had to deal with was paying $250 (only hotel available) for a room that had cockroaches! I was so mad! I complained but they didn't do anything about it. [princeworthy]

When I stayed at a hotel/motel in La Crosse, Wisconsin (was there for a tournament, so the entire town was sold out of hotels), we stayed at a hotel that had cockroaches in the bathroom (overrun), and the beds. There was dry puke in the corner of the room, and it was obvious that the "couple" before us had been a little busy... as they left two used condoms on the comforter. It was disgusting, so disgusting that our entire family stayed out in the car for the night.. [lazywalt99]
OMG.. sounds as horrible as our stay! How can anyone be so non-chalant about their cleaning and their representation of their own business? Makes you wonder. Unfortunately it was WAY too cold to stay in a car for us but we all went down the road to get tons of lysol and cleaning stuff and GLOVES! LOL Some of us even bought our own bedding (yes, I was one) and used that instead. [hockeygal4ever]

What happened to you and your group is inexcusable. As an Ontarian, from Toronto, I feel that the hotel should've at least offered the group a free dinners along with the discount or better yet if it is part of a chain, some free time at one of its other better managed hotels. By the way you should contact the Ontario Tourist Office and launch a complaint. Paying guests deserve a lot better. [katzbee]
Thanks. The sad part was the 800 number that takes the calls for the hotel chain was less then caring. The good part is, this was only one of many times we've stayed someplace in the area and we've always had nothing but wonderful experiences until this one!!! We just know to NEVER stay there again! LOL [hockeygal4ever]

Hmmm.. when we went to Singapore last year.. the hotel we stayed at was not a 5 star-hotel, it was just a mini-hotel in Chinatown, just so we have a place to stay at for one night. We had an online reservation and we thought it was nice and clean even if it's just a mini-hotel, but then I guess we expected too much! The room was sooo small, and the sheets were not clean at all, the toilet was atleast clean and they provided a roll of bathroom tissue.. the aircon was not that cold. I mean, what the heck!?! We definitely will not go back there anymore!! The landlord was even worse.. he was so rude and inconsiderate. [gegegelay]

I had one horrible experience at a hotel. We were trying to sleep but it was hard to. I have a good idea what this noise was but i'm not 100% sure. I'll explain now, When we were trying to sleep there was a continuous moan coming from a woman across the hall me having a good idea what that was was grossed out. That is my bad time at a hotel. [Bedient43]

oh man, me and my boyfriend went out on a date on valentines day and we wanted to be a little risky,....so the first hotel we saw we grabbed a room. It was at the comfort inn and it was no comfort in there...they even had lip prints of a chicks lips on the wall. Never again...if it's not a three star don't sleep there. [missladycc]

really? it is terrible. i think it should be altered. as a hotel,it is important that have good environment. people who come here to stay would have a good emotion ,or it is bad.they would never come again. if i meet this ,i would feel bad. not only the cost,i will emphasis the quality. [schrotian]

Well I cant tell you any particular experience of this type but I tell you about a person of my country who went to a hotel with his g/f and spent a night with her.Now there was a hidden cam in hotel so they made there video and sold it as a movie... [ahmar2]
How did they ever find out they were video taped? [hockeygal4ever]

It was not easy reading all this Being an Ontario resident i felt a little guilty I do not travel that much and really have no horror story only pleasant and great stories about my stay in hotels. Before I retired the principals went on 2 week educational trips every March The hotels we stayed at in France,Germany,Italy,Portugal,Africa, etc were fantastic....Even the hotel we stayed at in British Columbia and San Francisco was great ...Now with a little thought i think this is the reason We had a travel agency set everything up ....they knew we were Educational Administration and wanted the trip to come to their agency the next year so were very careful I think you made your own plans .....and you never mentioned how badly you lost in the tourney (Hehe) I am tired and its early morning and i lost 16 credits from yesterday I seem to always be climbing a mountain here at mylot Good Luck and Go Penquins [vmks31]
Well, as long as it wasn't YOUR hotel don't feel bad! LOL We've only had the one bad experience, and sadly they continue to use the hotel for the tourney every year but I suppose it's a matter of need. We have specified we will NOT use that hotel under ANY conditions and they have kept that deal for us thus far. This past year we stayed about 20 minutes from the tourney in a wonderful Hilton that was above and beyond wonderful. As for the loss... let me first explain that our OLDEST girl was 17 and our average age was 14. The U.S. age groups and cut offs are much different then the Canadian ones so we ended up having to play up 2 levels against girls that were, I'm not exaggerating, on average 19 & 20 years old with the oldest being 21. It was okay though as they came out with a completely sportsman like attitude and knew there was no real contest. At one point one of the girls nailed my daughter (the smallest on the team at 90 lbs. and all of 4'8") and floored her. She was so upset because the girl was easily about 5'7" and a good 200 pounds. She stopped, picked my daugter up like a little rag doll and kept apologizing and asking if she was okay. LOL My daughter, a true hockey chick, looked at her and yelled PUT ME DOWN I'M FINE! LOL After the game I went over to the girl and thanked her for being SO sportsmanlike and showing what class they had. The only team that didn't do this was a team from Hamilton. They came out, easily twice the size of our girls and a good 6-8 years older and just obliterated our girls. We came in dead last that year. LOL Does that tell you how well we did? HOWEVER .. this year.. we took 2nd! We are the ONLY U.S. Women's team invited each year and are so proud of that. My saddest moment was in learning that Walter Gretzky, my yearly "date" for the tourney, wouldn't be there due to his recent strokes. I was heartbroken to hear he wasn't doing well. He is a wonderful man indeed. [hockeygal4ever]

We went to one, because there were no other with openings. After getting to the room, it was horrible. We would turn out the lights and the bugs would come out. The office would not give our money back, and I slept in the car. It was awful. They did give us an offer for a free stay, HELLO!! There is no way!!! [Thoroughrob]
LOL... it always cracks me up when they offer a FREE dinner or FREE night! Excuse me? It's disgusting!!! Why would you want to even stay longer?! LOL [hockeygal4ever]

OH yes we were in Baltimore and wanted to be close to the Union hall for signing up the next morning . We got a room before looking at it. There was cig butts all over underbed under tables and then we were walking out side and there were hypo needles every where we wnt back in and found one stuck in the mattress. Well I came unclued and went to manager and got our money back and found a different motel. Its ashame that the maids cant clean any better than that even a grounds keeper should have been picking this stuff up some how they just didnt seem to care that it was running their motel down. From now on I ask to see the room before renting it for the night! [Lakota12]

We also had one very bad experience when we went to the hill station to spend our vacations. The things which made that hotel worst one are as follows: 1) There was no water in the taps for that they gave us just two buckets full of water. 2) None of the tube lights were working, there was only on small bulb. 3)And we cannot go to the restaurant as there was some exhibition in the restaurant. [executive85]
Oh my! No running water?! How did they even stay open? [hockeygal4ever]

I was with my ex when there was this stupid drunk white male (European) who kept on knocking on the door asking to see his girl. He would not go away and kept on insisting he had to see his girlfriend who was with another guy. He kept on bothering us until the guards dragged him downstairs and told him he got the wrong room. It was scary. [Mandy_Ch]

Although we did not have such an experience as yours (thankfully), we did encounter some nasty rooms when we went to Niagara Falls last year. Our friends are from Holland and they were amazed at the way the room was. The carpet was stained by the sliding glass door that led to the balcony. The rooms weren't very neat. He videotaped it to show his friends in Holland. [ElusiveButterfly]
Oh geez! How sad that he thought that was a "typical" experience! There are some very varied versions of hotels in that area. I've had everything from something a roach wouldn't even stay in to something that made you feel like a Queen! Too bad your experience wasn't better! [hockeygal4ever]

My husband and I stayed one night at an adult motel. The good thing the room was clean. Now comes the bad stuff, we had a waterbed-the bed was so cold, you couldn't lay down. The toilet overflowed, someone tried to get in our room. Then to top it all off, I wanted some hanky panky and all my husband wanted to do was sleep. I was not a happy camper, LOL. It was funny later, but not at the time. Another time we stayed in a motel, the room was overpriced, but it was late so we took the room. The air conditioner didn't work. They changed our room, this is after unpacking and getting around for bed. We had to repack, get dressed, change rooms. By this time it was in the middle of the night before we finally got into bed. Then after about 3 hours of sleep, the next room over, we were rudely awoken by a jack hammer, they were renovating the room next door. The hotel wasn't supposed to put anyone in those rooms. We complained they gave us $10 back, they should have refunded all our money. I have other not so good experiences in hotels but those were the worst. [Polly1]
Doesn't sound like you have good luck with hotels/motels! lol I'm going to suggest buying a camper if you want to vacation often!!! [hockeygal4ever]

nothing so bad as that, but.... we booked a double room in one London Hotel, that was near Hyde Park, walking distance, as we were seeing a band there. when we got there and went to sign in, they had as wait for about half an hour. when they finally let us go to sign in, it turned out they had overbooked the hotel, as this was their policy, so we wouldn't be staying there but at a sister hotel, some distance away. when we got there we didn't have much time left to get all the way back to hyde park, so we dumped our stuff off in the room and left. on getting back, first we found out that the lights in the room didn't work, so we had to rely on light from the TV. then we realised it had a single bed. and a small single at that, so it was quite a squeeze, and we nearly considered one of us sleeping on the floor. when we went to complain about this in the morning, they INSISTED it was a double room, and simply wouldn't have it that it was a single, even though the bed had one pillow and there was one hand towel and one bath towel. they refused to even refund us the difference between a single and a double room, which we had payed for, as it was "like a double room" although I can't imagine in what way. I was very angry and upset, and they made me feel stupid by making out I was a liar that it was a single room. [Galena]

I've got several places that were pretty crappy but most were cheap motels. We stayed at a hotel in Las Vegas a couple of years ago and had even reserved my room over 2 months in advance. Well, when we got there we were shown to a room that was at street level and if we opened the curtains, people could look in the room! I called the desk and complained but still had to wait for over 3 hours for them to find another room for us. That room was on the 7th floor and I thought it would be quieter there. Little did I know that even way up there that the noise from the "Fremont Street Experience" could be heard up that high even 3 blocks away from the hotel. It sounded like it was right outside the window. (That hotel has since been closed down.) Another one was a crappy motel in Texas that was so bad they had these HUGE Palmetto bugs that looked like giant roaches that came in around the air conditioner. Scared the life out of me when I saw the first one. They never changed the sheets on the beds while we were there for 10 days and never offered clean sheets for me to do it myself either. I had to empty my own trash, plunge the toilet when it blocked (I called the desk and the woman actually told me to pour some bleach in it to fix the block! She didn't want to even bring us a plunger!) & buy my own toilet paper (they supplied the first roll but I had to get my own after that). When my mother, my daughter & I went to Canada for a visit a few years ago, we checked in at a real dump that was near my aunt's place. My daughter & I were on the bed watching TVand my mother was in the bathroom when I heard a loud crash and the sink had fallen off the wall!! By that point my aunt found us and we got our money back from "Motel Hell" and left. Several years before that, my parents & I stayed at another motel in Canada (somewhere around Calgary) and this place must not have changed the sheets because I came home with a case of LICE! There's more but I don't want to think about all of them, I'll lose my appetite before supper. [Gumball]
Oh wow! I feel lucky now that my experience was about the only true "bad" one I've had with every hockey tourney. LOL We had one other time in TN when I had to pull over due to a migraine. The hotel was horrid. There was an ant hill IN the shower/tub! LOL There were roaches, but we didn't see them until later because I literally just died on the bed for hours and the kids did the same. The one good point was that the pool seemed clean and quite refreshing. [hockeygal4ever]

Hmm, I haven't had as bad a stay as you thats for sure. However, 2 years ago, myself and my partner moved out from Ontario to BC. We packed what we could in the car and drove it. The trip took 5 days and we stayed in a different hotel each night. Our second night was spent in Winnipeg in Manitoba. It took us some time to find a place that had rooms available. We finally landed at a motel that had a vacancy sign lit, and so we went in. The guy behind the desk said he had one room left available and so we signed in and took it. When we went inside, it was a smoking room. Even as a smoker, I did NOT like the smell of the smoke. It smelled terribly stale. I even went to smoke outdoors just to get some air. There was an Air conditioning unit in the room that rattled so bad. It sounded like it was going to break down and stop working at any moment. There was barely enough space round the bed to get in and out of it. We took to climbing on from the bottom up. The towels in the bathroom were tiny, and there was no soap. Good job we had our own is all I can say. We didn't pay a whole lot for the room but heck, we at least expected basic comforts That was the single most uncomfortable stay I've ever had. My partner incredibly managed to sleep, and it's probably just as well. 5 days of 12 hours nonstop driving takes it's toll for sure! [retardedrugrat]
Doesn't it kill you when you lie awake all night and everyone else somehow manages to sleep? LOL I'm always the one that has issues with sleeping too. If we're only there for a night I may as well forget it. If we're there 2-3 then I finally just collapse from exhaustion and finally sleep! [hockeygal4ever]

Wow, I have never had any thing like that! The worst that I have had is hair that was obviously not from a head is the bed, shower, etc.and i was aways promptly taken care of. One time when my husband and I went to Biloxi, Mi. we were given a dirty room and wen we called management about it we were upgraded to a awesome suite. [courtlynne77]

My bad experiennce is not as bad as yours. The hotel we stayed at had no water. I had 1 bath there in 2'" of cold water. Then nothing. Fortunately we had friends close by and could go there and get washed etc. The staff just acted like there was nothing they could do. They werent interested. But back to you experience. Did you make management aware of everything that was wrong, In writing I hope. And also how badly you were treated by the staff. And if you still got no joy, write an article for the local newspaper. That might make them jump a little. Although it does sound as if no one was interested. Hope you have a better place for your next tournament. [Kylalynn]
Oh we definitely made sure they knew. When we contacted them to have the rooms cleaned better they literally gave us ONE can of lysol and said we could spray ourselves. LOL Evidently they feel that lysol spray is also a cleaning agent? We ended up going out, getting buckets and stuff to clean because we KNEW we had no choice but to clean it if we were going to stay. Some of us even bought sheets to use instead of what they had on the bed because we could pretty much figure it wasn't clean! Then we called the 800 number for the motel and they were very nonchalant about it and said that there wasn't much they could do. We've stayed many other times in the same area and have had great places. This past one we had a Hilton and it was amazingly awesome and the staff was GREAT! [hockeygal4ever]

I was going to respond but after a story like that its going to take me a few minutes. I am so sorry anyone would have to deal with that. I don't understand why there not shut down. [ChefMichael44444]

So many to pick from, but my last worst experience was the toilet did not work, well it worked but it overflowed and they could never get it right and then the television would turn off if you shut a drawer on the dresser that the television was sitting on, which got quite irritating after awhile. [texasclassygal]

Eweeeeeeeeeeee That is a horror story!! You did turn them in didn't you? 1 to the health dept, and 2 the BBB, and if there is a hotel / motel association that would be good too. ---------------------------- Mine is not as horrifying as yours. The last Motel my husband and I stayed in, we stayed there for 2 weeks and 1 day. The owner was a..............well to be nice, I will say mean. We have a dog, ok he knew it, but one of us had to be in the room with the dog at all times.....My dog is 8 years old, well will be in june, does not chew anything up, does not use bathroom other than outside. Not only that, they had an on site laundry room, we could not wash clothes in private, he had to watch us like kids. He would yell at us for nothing, and man, we paid some of his salary, almot 300.00 a week!! And to be treated this way? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr [thowell]

In Italy, I experienced something that I had never seen before. The bath was not operational. They changed it into a shower. That was not to bad. They had no space for the toilet, so they connected and placed the toilet in the bath itself. It was unbelievable !! AS far as ONTARIO is about. Report the hotel to the proper authorities. They will close them down. [rolcam]
